'Prometheus' Is No 'Avengers,' Clark Gregg Says

Agent Coulson himself tells MTV News why the follow-up to 'Alien' won't be 'quite the same' as superhero team-up flick.

The summer of 2012 has been a series of highs and lows for potential blockbusters. "The Avengers" broke records, while "Battleship" barely left the dock. But with Ridley Scott's much-anticipated return to sci-fi, "Prometheus," debuting next week, this summer could find its next hit.

While "Prometheus" may be big, it probably won't be "Avengers" big, or at least that's what Clark Gregg thinks.

Speaking with MTV News in the lead-up to the MTV Movie Awards, airing this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET, the man behind the ever-present Agent Coulson talked about what he's looking forward to seeing this summer.

"I'm really excited to see 'Prometheus' because I love the original 'Alien' so much, but it looks really scary," Gregg said. "I don't know if it will be quite the same family fare that 'The Avengers' is."

Even though he's looking forward to "Prometheus," Gregg doesn't think the records set by "Avengers" are in any danger. " 'Avengers' manages to be really exciting and hard-hitting, and still there's kind of nobody who can't see it. It's going to be tough to beat," he said. "I'm a little biased, but I think it's pretty terrific. Yet, we have 'Dark Knight' coming."

The mass appeal of "The Avengers," admittedly was something that caught Gregg by surprise. "I thought it was a great script, and I knew it was a terrific cast that I knew I was giddy to show up and work with," he said. "Yet you never really know if it's going to jell, and you don't know how the effects are going to be. To sit there with an audience of people opening night and to see that their reaction was even more excited and gasp-y than the one I'd seen at the premiere, I thought, 'Well, this seems like it works.' I don't think anybody thought it was going to take off like it did."
