Consider Eminem's comeback complete. The superstar MC will take the stage at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards next month in Los Angeles, MTV News has learned exclusively.
The Recording Academy will officially announce Em and other performers on Thursday; Pitchfork reported Wednesday (January 12) that Arcade Fire will also be performing at the awards show.
The performance is the latest in a line of accomplishments for Eminem since he released Recovery, which is up for Album of the Year. The Detroit lyricist scored a pair of #1 singles from the album with "Not Afraid" and "Love the Way You Lie," featuring Rihanna.
Those songs helped Em earn 10 Grammy nominations. It's quite a turnaround from his last project, Relapse. That album debuted at #1 but received mixed reviews, despite winning Best Rap Album at the 2009 Grammys. With Recovery, however, Em has returned to form.
Now, he's set to take center stage at the prestigious event. Twelve months ago, he joined Drake for the then-upstart's "Forever" performance. But for this year's telecast, the multiple Grammy winner will take top billing.
He's already been featured in the show's promotional campaign. A touching 30-second spot showcases Em's musical legacy, from the loss of his friend, fellow MC Proof, to his struggles through drug dependency and his rise back to the top of the hip-hop game.
There's no question the veteran MC will be the star of the festivities. In December, when nominations were revealed, the rapper led the pack, besting Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, who received seven and six nominations, respectively.
The Grammys air Sunday, February 13, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
