One of the many reasons to admire Katy Perry is for how honest she is with her fans in revealing how she struggles with the same mundane annoyances in life that we all do, like watching what we eat and exercising.

During MTV First: Katy Perry" on Tuesday, when Perry premiered her new "Part of Me" video, the pop star revealed that during the holidays, she gives herself a free pass and goes into full-on "Stay Puft Marshmallow mode." Raising Sand, from Led Zeppelin vet and bluegrass superstar, wins five Grammys on Sunday night.
By James Montgomery with MTV News staff

"I'm bewildered," Robert Plant said onstage as he accepted the <MTVNLINK type="news" id="1604580">Grammy Album of the Year award</MTVNLINK> with Alison Krauss on Sunday night. "In the old days we would have called this selling out, but it's a good way to spend a Sunday."

He was probably one of the few who were surprised, because Raising Sand, which won five trophies at Sunday night's show, is in many ways the perfect Grammy album. It features two respected veterans, a critically lauded producer, some sandpaper-and-velvet vocals and a baker's dozen of time-tested standards.

You're probably familiar with Robert Plant from his Led Zeppelin days, and you might be aware of producer T-Bone Burnett's work on the "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" soundtrack (it won the Grammy for Album of the Year in 2002). And if you don't know who Alison Krauss is, she possesses a haunting set of pipes and is one of the meanest fiddle players in the world. Oh, and she's won 21 Grammys, more than any other female artist and the seventh-most in history.

Really, she's the key to Sand's success, and not just because of her voice (or her fiddle playing). She and Plant first met in 2004, at a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tribute to legendary bluesman Leadbelly, and the former Zeppelin man was amazed by her knowledge of American Roots music — so much so that they began kicking around the idea of recording an album together. Three years later, Sand was released.

And while Plant possesses the more famous voice, the album's finest moments radiate from Krauss. Whether she's getting bluesy on Little Milton's "Let Your Loss Be Your Lesson" or entwining with Plant's husky voice on songs like "Please Read the Letter" and Roly Salley's winsome "Killing the Blues," she more than carries her end of the bargain.

And perhaps that's also due to producer Burnett, who handpicked the 13 songs the duo cover on Sand. His arrangements are sparse — giving the two voices ample room to breathe — yet dense, warm and crackling at the same time. It's a testament to his work that he's often given just as much billing as Plant and Krauss on the project ... and it's certainly justified.

To date, Sand has sold more than 1 million copies, heaped tons of acclaim and actually earned a Grammy last year — "Gone Gone Gone (Done Moved On)" took home the award for Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals.

One expert was surprised not by the album's success, but by the fact that it's actually quite a good album.

"At first, the album seemed like a vanity project. ... Two names, clearly a one-off record, didn't have to be any good, you know?" New York Times music critic Jon Caramanica said. "Led Zeppelin fans would buy it because of Robert Plant, Alison Krauss would get a check. But it actually turned out to be a really thoughtful, really good record. So when you combine all that with the fact that the Grammys love to lionize one of their own, I could really see it taking home some awards."

'I might Adele you and make, like, millions off my sorrow,' singer warns potential boyfriends.

Taylor Swift and Adele have made a business out of their breakups, and it looks like Justin Bieber's protégé Carly Rae Jepsen just might follow suit.

Swift, who has admitted to writing about her ex-boyfriends, finds relationships to be her greatest inspiration. "Forever & Always" was directed at ex-boyfriend Joe Jonas, who reportedly broke up with her via text message. "It's all about love and chaos and those fun messes," Jepsen wrote of her record on her personal website. She tells boys to exercise caution when dating her. "I might seek revenge. I might Adele you and make, like, millions off my sorrow."

And who can blame her? Both Adele and Swift landed in Billboard's Music's Top 40 Money Makers 2012, with Adele at #10, grossing more than $13 million, and Swift trumping at #1, earning more than $35 million.

But not every young teenage girl is seeking revenge against her no-good boyfriend. So what advice does Jepsen, who might do a collaboration with Bieber, have for young girls to avoid such "fun messes"? "Be yourself. 'Cause I feel like when you're trying to be somebody other than that, you attract things that aren't necessarily very good for you," Jepsen told MTV News. Unless, of course, those things help you rake in the millions.

Would you write a song about an ex? Share your comments below!

50 Cent performs his 2003 album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" with some help from Marshall Mathers.
By Nadeska Alexis

50 Cent made a rare appearance in Austin, Texas on Friday night to perform his classic 2003 album Get Rich or Die Tryin' in its entirety, and fans who were hoping for that rumored Eminem performance were not the least bit disappointed.

The opening lineup at the SXSW Shady 2.0 Showcase included 50 Cent's new G-Unit artists Paris and Kidd Kidd, plus Action Bronson, Black Hippy's Schoolboy Q, Don Trip and Big K.R.I.T. Yelawolf was forced to cancel his appearance due to an injury but his fellow Shady Records signees, Slaughterhouse, took the stage before Fif dishing out freestyles, in addition to singles like "Hammer Dance" from their upcoming album welcome to: Our House.

50 Cent hit the stage shortly after 11pm, launching into "What Up Gangsta?" decked out in an appropriately nostalgic outfit--a camouflage bullet-proof best and Yankees cap.

Throughout the week there had been whispers of an Eminem guest appearance during Fif's set, and Marshall Mathers confirmed those rumors on the second song of the night. Fifty rolled right into "Patiently Waiting," spitting his first verse and within seconds Em burst onto the stage, delivering the hook and his verse, casually decked out in jeans a baseball cap and his signature hoodie.

At times, Fif's commentary during the show was just as entertaining as the actual songs. "It's been 10 years. That album sold 13 million copies," he told the crowd, marveling at the success of Get Rich or Die Tryin.' "The money came so fast, I couldn't f--- it up," he added, getting some laughs from the crowd. "I was trying everything I could think of."

Tony Yayo hung by Fif's side as the crowd continued to go wild for tracks like "Many Men," and "In Da Club." And although the Queens rapper was in great spirits, he still managed to get in a bit of a rant, taking aim at some of his critics. "I guess it's not what have I done, but what have I done for you lately, is that right?" he said, the annoyance evident on his face.

Still, Fif treated fans to a few more songs, including an encore performance and a freestyle over Eminem's "Till I Collapse," which commanded another Shady appearance on stage. "Wanksta" was the closing number of the night, and though fans stayed put, expectantly, for another few minutes, that was it folks.

Label boss Jimmy Iovine calls criticism 'a drag.'
By Gil Kaufman

To look at her, you'd think <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/rey_lana_del/artist.jhtml"_blank">Lana Del Rey's inspirations come mostly from 1940s detective movies and sepia-toned Hollywood pinups. But the "Video Games" singer told England's Magic 105.4 that one of her big fashion and music icons is Britney Spears.

"I'm not really interested in a ton of female musicians but there is something about Britney that compelled me — the way she sings and just the way she looks," Del Rey said. And even though she's just released her major-label debut under the Del Rey name, she added that she's already kind of over music-making.

"The thing that makes me happy now isn't really singing," she said. "Music was once the be-all and end-all, but when you lose everything you have over and over again, it's not so important."

It might be a bit early for her to bail on the whole music thing though, since her album, Born to Die, topped the iTunes album charts in 14 countries this week, including the U.S., U.K., Italy, France, Germany, Ireland and Mexico.

The chart triumph — and a possible #2 debut next week on the Billboard albums tally — came despite a rash of negative or middling reviews
