'It's perfect for this private couple,' one celebrity expert tells MTV News of B's low-key NYC outing.

<P>It was only a month ago that fans were wondering when the first images of new mom <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> might hit the Net. On Monday night, those questions were answered. Just four weeks after giving birth to daughter <a href="/news/articles/1677033/blue-ivy-beyonce-jay-z-leaves-hospital.jhtml">Blue Ivy</a>, B was back on the scene to celebrate hubby <a href="/news/articles/1678669/jay-z-carnegie-hall.jhtml">Jay-Z's first show at Carnegie Hall</a>. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:731725" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Wearing a form-fitting red dress, she hit up a post-show party held at Jay's 40/40 Club in New York City. And while <a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/07/beyonce-carnegie-hall-jay-z-show">Beyoncé could have premiered</a> her <a href="/news/articles/1678670/beyonce-post-baby-appearance-jay-z.jhtml">post-baby body</a> on a splashy red carpet, celebrity experts note that the more understated move is very B. "It's perfect for this private couple. She didn't make a big deal walking a red carpet at an award show or posing on the cover of a magazine," Huffington Post celebrity columnist Rob Shuter told MTV News on Tuesday (February 7). "Beyoncé made it as low-key an event as possible and at the same time plugged her husband's club." <b><a href="http://rapfix.mtv.com/2012/02/08/beyonce-photos-carnegie-hall-night-two/">Check out more photos from B's night out!</a></b> For the appearance, Beyoncé was decked out in a fiery-red Temperley London dress, Christian Louboutin heels and an Alexander McQueen clutch. While that may sound very glam, another expert was surprised by just how modest the look actually was. "Beyoncé looks amazing in her first post-baby appearance. Even thought it made sense for her to make her debut last night to show her support for her husband and the charity his concert benefited, her outfit was fairly simple," celebrity editor <a href="http://gossipdavid.com" target="_blank">David Caplan</a> said. "I expected her to make her post-baby debut at a really glitzy event or awards show, like maybe the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/news/grammys">Grammys</a>, in a gorgeous gown and really steal the show. But clearly she wanted to be seen, since she even posted photos of herself right away on her website, which stars don't typically do — they'll just let the media pick up and run the photos." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:724228.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div><p> So, will B and Jay play it just as cool when it comes to releasing the first shot of their newborn? "It will be a [paparazzi] shot taken on the beach or when the couple is on vacation," Shuter predicted. "They won't reveal the baby to get a [magazine] cover like Bethenny [Frankel] or those other reality stars." Caplan also proposed that a baby photo will probably leak. "As for when will we see baby Blue, I wouldn't be surprised if some sort of grainy-looking paparazzi photo emerges," he said. "Those photographers are very crafty, even if Beyoncé and Jay-Z think they're doing all they can to keep Blue away from photographers. But ultimately, I think you can expect to see her baby photos in a magazine pictorial, and that will be Blue's introduction to the world. That's the real reveal people want to see." <i>Are you looking forward to the first photos of Blue Ivy? Tell us on our <a href="http://www.facebook.com/mtvnews" target="_blank">Facebook</a> page!</i></p>

During band's rehearsal break for Sunday's Movie Awards, we put Foos to the test.

<P><b>UNIVERSAL CITY, California</b> — Hard rock, heavy metal, hardcore and punk have long gone hand-in-hand with evil wizards, magic, vampires and werewolves. And with a collective sub-cultural pedigree that includes stints in the Germs, No Use for a Name, Sunny Day Real Estate, Scream and some band called Nirvana, you'd think the <a href="/music/artist/foo_fighters/artist.jhtml">Foo Fighters</a> — set to perform at Sunday's <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2011/">Movie Awards</a> — would know their "Potter" from their Zeppelin. Certainly they can recognize a "wand" reference and pinpoint its origin? </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:660301.id:1664959" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Right? Before we put MTV News' magically crafted trivia to the band, it seemed safe to assume the Foos would accurately distinguish between the words of Harry Potter, a "Twilight" character and Led Zeppelin. But was their underground nerd cred blown to shreds? Read on — and click the video! — to see how the Foo Fighters fared when we caught up with them on the Universal Studios lot, shortly after they finished rehearsing their <a href="/news/articles/1664297/foo-fighters-mtv-movie-awards.jhtml">Movie Awards performance</a>. Our own Jim Cantiello played dungeon master as Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel, Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear were given a series of semi-famous lines and asked whether they originated with "Harry Potter," the "Twilight Saga" or the lyrics of hard-rock pioneers Led Zeppelin. Here's a sampling of a few of those one-liners: <b>»</b> "The elder wand, the most powerful wand ever made." <b>»</b> "Why don't you let me be yours ever truly? Can I make your garden grow?" <b>»</b> "You're lying, Dolores! You mustn't tell lies!" Can you guess whether the lines above came from the "Potter" flicks, "Twilight" or Robert Plant? Watch as the Foos try their best to do exactly that. Then tune in to the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday to catch the Foo Fighters rock the stage with their new single, "Walk." <b>Will wizards, vampires or dream thieves steal the <a href="http://www.mtv.com/ontv/movieawards/2011/">2011 MTV Movie Awards</a>? Find out June 5, when the 20th annual show airs live at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Tune in at 7:30 p.m. ET/PT that night for the "America's Best Dance Crew" finale and Movie Awards pre-show, loaded with live action from the red carpet, exclusive movie clips and a special edition of <a href="http://www.mtv.com/shows/after_hours_josh_horowitz/series.jhtml">"After Hours."</a></b></p>

<P>You kind of can't go wrong when the soundtrack you've put together for one of the most eagerly anticipated literary adaptations in years kicks off <a href="/music/artist/yeah_yeah_yeahs/artist.jhtml">Yeah Yeah Yeahs</a> singer Karen O's take on <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s "Immigrant Song." </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:693384" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Fans heard the throbbing industrial take on the rock classic cooked up by former Nine Inch Nails mastermind and O when a trailer for the David Fincher-directed "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" leaked back in May. And on Thursday, Oscar-winning industrial-rocker-turned-film composer Reznor and musical partner Atticus Ross unveiled the full track list for their "Tattoo" score album. The follow-up to their award-winning "The Social Network" score was a labor of love, according to a <a href="http://nin.com/?id=102677" target="_blank">post</a> Reznor put up on the NIN site on Thursday announcing the disc. "For the last fourteen months Atticus and I have been hard at work on David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo,' " he wrote about the American version of the tale of pierced and punished hacker <a href="/news/articles/1655879/rooney-mara-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara)</a> and her muckraking journalist compatriot <a href="/news/articles/1667542/daniel-craig-rooney-mara-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo.jhtml">Mikael Blomkvist (Daniel Craig)</a>. The album will be released on iTunes on December 9 in two versions. Right now, you can download the Karen O song on iTunes when you pre-order the 39-track album. That download purchase will also give you a link to the <a href="/news/articles/1675297/girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-trailer-extended.jhtml">eight-minute "Dragon Tattoo" trailer</a>, for which Reznor and Ross created a unique score. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:674399" width="240" height="211"></div><p> But, if you visit the <a href="http://www.nullco.com/GDT/usd.php" target="_blank">NIN online store</a>, Reznor is offering the soundtrack in a variety of forms, from a free six-track sampler to a deluxe 3,000-piece limited-edition signed $300 package with your choice of MP3 formats; the full album on six pieces of 180 gram vinyl; a deluxe book package with a metal cover; an exclusive custom 8 GB metal razor blade USB drive pendant containing the full album; and a fold-out poster. Mom-to-be will star as Robert Pattinson's love interest in 'Bel Ami.'

Uma Thurman is a mama-to-be once again. According to E! Online, the "Kill Bill" and "Bel Ami" actress and her financier beau Arpad Busson will welcome a new bundle of joy into the world later this year.
The new addition to Thurman's family will join her children Maya, 13, and Levon, 10, with whom she shares custody with ex-husband Ethan Hawke. Hawke has expanded his family in recent years as well. After marrying his and Thurman's onetime nanny Ryan Shawhughes in 2008, the happy couple has welcomed two children of their own: Clementine, 3, and Indiana, 6 months.
Although Thurman will likely begin preparations for her new arrival, fans will get to see more of the 41-year-old beauty in Robert Pattinson's next film, "Bel Ami," which opens in March. Thurman has been fortunate to have co-starred with a slew of handsome younger men in her films over the years, which she said she has not taken for granted: "I have been cast opposite a lot of really handsome, charming young men," she told MTV News, laughing, last April. "It's nice work when you can get it.
"I've also worked with some of the world's most wonderful esteemed older men throughout my career, who were wonderful people to learn from and be with. I think the exploration of people relating in different generations is something that is really current," she continued. "And it's fun. It's wonderful to have. I can't just speak about it romantically, but it's wonderful to know people at all different stages of life."
Speaking of her work with her very popular "Bel Ami" co-star and international heartthrob, Thurman has had nothing but high praise for Pattinson: "Robert Pattinson is, I think, going to be a really serious actor," she shared. "I think he's incredibly concrete in his presence on the set and obviously is very handsome. [He] is a very nice person, and he's sensitive. He's present. ... He's a really good actor."

Judge also takes shot at 'The Voice,' asking, 'How many artists have they discovered?'
By John Mitchell
<P>Simon Cowell is finally opening up about the cast shakeups on "The X Factor" as well as about rumors that two <i>very</i> famous divas are in talks to join Fox's reality singing competition. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:698604.id:1672066" width="240" height="211"></div><p> Late last month, it was announced that judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger and host Steve Jones had been <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">fired from "X Factor"</a> and would be replaced in its second season. The announcement came as a shock to fans, but Cowell tells <a href="http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/simon-cowell-x-factor-firings-voice-287806" target="_blank">"Extra"</a> in an interview airing Wednesday (February 8) that the decision was a long time coming and was ultimately made "at the beginning of the year — and we were told it had to happen straight away." While her dismissal came as a surprise, Cowell says Abdul "was very gracious" about it. "She understands it's business," Cowell said of his real-life friend. "It's never personal." Scherzinger, according to Cowell, was "disappointed" with the producers' decision to replace her. But the former Pussycat Doll insisted in a new <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/nicole-scherzinger-talks-x-factor-departure-i-have-no-regrets_article_60184" target="_blank">"Access Hollywood"</a> interview that she "had a wonderful experience on the show." "What happened? Well, all I know is that I gave 110 percent to that show," she said. "I know everybody's talking about it, they're saying good, bad, they love me or hate me, but the one thing you can't say is that I didn't give it my all." Cowell also used his time with "Extra" to squash rumors that Beyoncé or Mariah Carey might be joining the "X Factor" team when it returns to Fox later this year. He seemed particularly amused by <a href="http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/02/08/idUS114237084820120208" target="_blank">talk</a> that the show was offering Beyoncé a nine-figure contract to join the judges' table. "The budget for the show is $100 million. That would never ever happen. It's absolute nonsense," he told "Extra." "No one is going to pay $100 million for someone. I genuinely haven't had a conversation with her about it. Not at all." The same can be said for Carey, who Cowell said he likes very much and would be a fine addition to the show but is an impractical choice because of the long hours involved. "I adore her, love her," he said. "But you can't expect someone who has just had two kids [and] has a record career to make the kind of commitment we would need on this show." "X Factor" did not perform as strongly as expected in the ratings last fall, which many feel precipitated the planned revamp, though the ever-cool Cowell is not sweating the competition. In this latest interview, Cowell took on "The Voice," which returned to NBC after the Super Bowl and delivered big ratings, saying the makeup of his judging panel is what sets "X Factor" apart. "I would ask how many records have they made, how many artists have they discovered?" Cowell asked of "The Voice" mentors Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton. "That's where we have to be different on the judging panel. It's very important that you have people on the panel that have actually signed and made artists successful all over the world, not just have made hit records yourself."</p>

Justin Bieber visits a 6-year-old fan battling cancer

<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> spent the day before Valentine's Day with a special girl. No, he wasn't with his lady love, Selena Gomez — instead he visited Monday with a 6-year-old Belieber, Avalanna Routh, who is suffering from an aggressive form of cancer. In a photo posted to his <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/justinbieber" target="_blank">Twitter account</a>, Bieber is seen hanging out with the young fan, dubbed "Mrs. Bieber." <P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/perry_katy/artist.jhtml">Katy Perry</a> may be deep in shooting the video for her latest single, "Part of Me." The singer was spotted wearing a military uniform on the set of <i>something</i> this week. </p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:733828" width="240" height="211"></div><p> In several photos that made their way online, Perry dons a cropped black wig and fatigues. One <a href="http://s14.directupload.net/images/120217/ldnnenyo.jpg" target="_blank">shot</a> is of her standing next to male soldiers. <a href="http://s7.directupload.net/images/120217/dnhbcd8n.png" target="_blank">Another</a> features her standing in a store. The last <a href="http://s7.directupload.net/images/120217/bcr4y8ri.png" target="_blank">photo</a> is of her in a pool with a soldier (still wearing the Army garb). According to <a href="http://perezhilton.com/2012-02-16-katy-perry-usmc-base-camp" target="_blank">Perez Hilton</a>, she is shooting the military-themed video at Marine Corps base Camp Pendleton in Oceanside, California. A rep for the base could not confirm reports that she is shooting there when contacted by MTV News. Meanwhile, her rep had not responded to our request for comment by press time. Earlier this week, Perry teased that she was looking forward to hitting the set for the "Part of Me" video. "Holy power of the Grammy's, Part Of Me is already top 10 on itunes! U guys are killing it! NICE! Can't wait to shoot this video!" she tweeted on Monday, one day after she <a href="/news/articles/1679204/grammys-2012-katy-perry-russell-brand.jhtml">debuted the song at the Grammys</a>. The <a href="/news/articles/1677702/katy-perry-teenage-dream-new-tunes.jhtml"><i>Teenage Dream: Complete Confection</i></a> song is a bit darker than most Perry fans might be used to. The song is about the dissolution of a relationship, during which Perry sings scathing lines like "Days like this I want to drive away/ Pack bags and watch your shadow fade/ You chewed me up and spit me out like I was poison in your mouth/ You took my life, you drank me down/ But that was then and this is now." And in what has been taken as a jab at her former hubby, Russell Brand, she adds, "You can keep the diamond ring/ It don't mean nothing anyway." <i>What did you think of Katy Perry's Grammys performance? Ratings for Sunday night's telecast up 4 percent over 2011's show.
By Gil Kaufman

Sometimes "meh" is all you need — especially when you're following up one of the most reviled Oscar hosting teams in recent memory.
That might explain why, despite a night devoid of any major surprises or blockbuster winners, ratings for the 2012 Oscars telecast were up slightly over last year.
According to ABC's preliminary ratings, the Billy Crystal-hosted awards show had a 25.5 rating and 37 share, a 4 percent increase over the 2011 show, which famously bombed thanks to the lack of chemistry between hosts James Franco and Anne Hathaway. Crystal's safe-as-milk ninth go-round as host earned the veteran comedian mostly tepid to negative reviews, but it was enough to boost the big night to one of its best ratings nights since 2007, when the show put up a 27.7 rating and 42 share.
The highest-ever Oscar ratings came in 1998, when the global blockbuster "Titanic" helped draw in more than 55 million viewers.
Ratings might have been even higher if any of the most-nominated movies had posted solid box-office figures as well. But between them, the leading winners, "The Artist" and "Hugo," which both reveled in a nostalgic look back at the dawn of the modern movie era, have grossed just over $100 million combined to date. To put that in perspective, popcorn flick "Transformers: Dark of the Moon," which was blanked in three technical categories, brought in nearly that much in its opening weekend.
More complete ratings numbers are expected later in the day on Monday (February 27).
The MTV Movies team has the 2012 Oscars covered! Keep it locked at MTV.com for updates on the night's big winners and the best red-carpet fashion.

They were handed their prize by Angelina Jolie, who had just turned heads in her breathtaking Versace black velvet gown, which featured one very sexy slit. To emphasize the look, Jolie had popped out her right leg; the move prompted a Twitter account made in the leg's honor and Rash's funny onstage parody of it, right next to Jolie.
Shortly after Rash imitated her stance at the show, he was asked what had moved him to do it. He laughed off the moment, telling The Hollywood Reporter, "I had just seen her pose and thought it was bold and fun. And you know what? We have exactly the same legs!
Really, it was a loving tribute and nothing but."
Faxon, who also sort of got in on the joke with his leg, said, "Angelina's supremely hot. There's no way to do anything but honor her."
Rash also spoke to EW.com about the moment, noting that he had decided to go there when producers told nominees that when multiple people accepted an award, only one person could give a speech.
"Honestly, as soon as I saw her pose like that, I was like, 'I'm going to do that,' " said the writer, who also plays Dean Pelton on "Community." "I knew Alexander was going to take the reins, so I was like, 'How can I make a moment?' — selfishly. I almost thought it was a little Dean Pelton, somehow. I was bringing it all together. Because I have stood like that [on 'Community']."
As of press time, the Twitter account (under the handle "Angies Right Leg") made in that leg's honor had yet to comment on the moment, but sure had plenty to say about its own glory over the course of 18 tweets. One of the final tweets simply noted, "You have to admit I'm one hell of a leg."

MTV News' Hottest MCs in the Game debate isn't solely about the 10 MCs who make the hotly contested list.
Before MTV News' Hip-Hop Brain Trust convenes at the roundtable, each member submits his or her own individual list of 10 MCs they'd like to nominate for the discussion. After all of the nominees are tallied, approximately 20 rappers are taken into consideration; the artists with the most nominations are weighted at the top.
So outside the 10 chosen, MTV had a handful of other MCs to consider based on a combination of criteria like impact, buzz, sales, lyrics, style (commonly referred to as swag) and the intangibles. Though Maybach Music Group's Wale eventually had his #10 spot cemented, many were considered.
Now, MTV News presents our Hottest MCs honorable mentions:
J. Cole
J. Cole had a phenomenal 2011. His debut album, Cole World: The Sideline Story, has gone gold and yielded a platinum single with "Work Out." Cole, who was once an underground favorite, broadened his fanbase by touring with Rihanna on her Loud Tour.
T.I.
Tip might have gotten off to a late start, since he was released from prison at the very end of September, but the King of the South wasted no time getting back into the swing of things. Immediately after finishing his bid, Tip jumped on some of the hottest songs in rap, creating his own remixes to 2 Chainz's "Spend It," Future's "Magic" and the Throne's "N---as in Paris." Tip capped it all off on New Year's Day when he dropped his F--- Da City Up mixtape.
Eminem
Last year, Eminem stood as the #1 Hottest MC in the Game. It was hard to deny him after 2010's Recovery dominated the charts. Em's lyrical ability is never a question, and in 2011, King Mathers once again proved that very few (if any) can match him on the mic. Rather than churn out the commercial smashes he is known to make, Em took things back to the underground and hooked up with Royce Da 5'9" for their fan-favorite Bad Meets Evil EP Hell: The Sequel.
Young Jeezy
It may have taken the Snowman a minute to put out his long-awaited TM 103: Hustlerz Ambition album, but Jeezy wasn't just sitting around twiddling his thumbs. While fans salivated for his major-label release, Young fed the streets with a pair of DJ Drama-helmed mixtapes in 2011. (The Real Is Back and The Real Is Back 2). By the time Jeezy finally released his latest installment from his Thug Motivation series in December, he had earned himself a #1 rap album.
2 Chainz
A little artistic reinvention never hurt anybody. The MC formerly known as Tity Boi broke out from his group Playaz Circle and embarked on a solo mission that paid huge dividends. As 2 Chainz, the ATL standout fired up the streets with mixtapes like Codeine Cowboy and T.R.U. Realigion. With street bangers like "Spend It" under his belt, 2 Chainz stood as the poster child for rap's underground and then cashed in when he signed his major-label deal with Def Jam this month.
Fabolous
With or without an album, Brooklyn's Fabolous consistently slays his completion. Fab didn't release his Loso's Way 2 LP, but he did serve his fans a dose of that raw with his Christmas Day mixtape There Is No Competition 3: Death Comes in 3's. On the tape, Funeral Fab goes in, freestyling over beats made famous by Tyga, Travis Porter and, of course, 2 Chainz. By the end of the 15-track ride, Fab proved that he is eternally hot no matter what his competitors may throw at him.

MTV News looks back the awards shows that deserved standing ovations and those that left us falling asleep in our chair.
By MTV News staff
With the end of Oscars season, we say goodbye to awards shows for a few months. The spectacles honored the best in television, music and movies, and each handed out a good amount of hardware. But who put on the best show? Not all awards shows were created equal, and some get the benefit of live performances while some have to rest on the laurels of acceptance speeches.
As the 2011-2012 awards season comes to a close, the MTV News staff has taken a look back at the year that was to give you the breakdown on which shows earned standing ovations and which were just seat fillers.
The Academy Awards
"Another year, another reminder that the Oscars are no longer the can't-miss movie event they once were. Barring a surprise win for Meryl Streep and a fleeting hour where you thought that maybe, just maybe, 'Hugo' would topple 'The Artist,' the 2012 Oscars ceremony was a total dud. Yes, it was nice to see Billy Crystal back onstage; no, no one will complain about a cameo from Christopher Guest and friends; and sure, there is nothing that sucks about watching Sacha Baron Cohen spill 'Kim Jong Il's ashes' all over Ryan Seacrest. But those moments are why the Internet exists. As a whole and on its own, the 84th Annual Academy Awards were a giant, predictable snooze fest." C — Josh Wigler
The Grammys
"The Grammys are kind of like the Pu Pu Platter at the hip Chinese joint at the local strip mall: There's a bunch of the golden oldies your granny and mom love scattered among a bunch of weird new stuff that the grandkids can't get enough of. In other words, it tries to be all things to all people while typically turning off most of them. Except this year. The show drew near-record ratings thanks to a well-deserved sweep by Adele, a touching homage to just passed R&B superstar Whitney Houston and a grab bag of performances from the Foo Fighters, Chris Brown, Taylor Swift, Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Coldplay, Bruno Mars, Alicia Keys and Bonnie Raitt and that now-infamous messy EDM mashup thing. If that, along with two meh sets from ex-Beatle Paul McCartney and a mystifying one from Nicki Minaj sounds like the weirdest, least appealing festival lineup ever, well... And yet, host LL Cool J set an appropriately somber, not morbid tone for the show while keeping it moving, Jennifer Hudson absolutely nailed her Houston tribute and Adele simultaneously dragged the Recording Academy into the present while serving up just enough throw-back flavor to keep several generations happy." B+ — Gil Kaufman
The Golden Globes
"There are many things to love about the Golden Globe Awards. First and foremost, it combines the best and brightest from the worlds of television and film, an interesting occurrence because for some strange reason the stars of TV and cinema don't regularly interact in the awards-show wilds. Second, there is a decidedly more laid-back air to the affair, made possible by the bottles and bottles of champagne that are handed out to attendees from the moment they arrive on the red carpet to the moment they depart. Third, the nominating body for the Globes is the mysterious Hollywood Foreign Press, the membership and qualifications about which no one really knows that much. This year's award show wasn't especially full of shocking surprises, but it definitely delivered on the fun factor. Ricky Gervais returned to host and managed to not offend too many celebs in attendance, save for one jab at Madonna that she playfully tossed back in his face; George Clooney and Seth Rogen both made penis jokes and on a more sincere note, deserving Best Actor winner and 'Game of Thrones' star Peter Dinklage used his acceptance speech to call attention to an injustice." B — Kara Warner
Screen Actors Guild Awards
"The SAGs get a lot of credit for their ability to predict the Oscar winners a month or so in advance. While the SAG Awards have rightfully earned their reputation as accurate fortune tellers, actually watching the show will make you wish you'd just Googled the results that next morning. With onstage union talk and no host to keep the show moving, the ceremony this year took its name too literally and sagged." B- — Kevin Sullivan
American Music Awards
"The AMAs kicked it off with Nicki Minaj/David Guetta performing and wrapped it up with Justin Bieber and David Hasselhoff shufflin' alongside LMFAO. Squeezed in between were performances and awards handed out to stars like Minaj and Taylor Swift, among others. For a show that feels like it's Cinderella to its Grammys step sister, the AMAs proved that sometimes it's more fun to have fun." B — Jocelyn Vena
Critics' Choice Movie Awards
"Hosts Rob Huebel and Paul Scheer might have dubbed this show 'the ninth most exciting night in Hollywood,' and it might have delivered long stretches of snooze-worthy TV, but the CCAs also have us some great, 'Human Giant'-esque video bits, a live performance from Bob Dylan and Best Supporting Actor winner Christopher Plummer's onstage confession, 'I'm completely turned on.' It was the night's introductions and speeches, in fact, that made the show an overall winner. Judd Apatow dropped f-bombs, Sean Penn spoke via satellite about the continuing hardships in Haiti, and Patton Oswalt said, 'There are plenty of nuanced roles for schlubby actors out there. And the ones that Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman don't take are all mine!' "B+ — Eric Ditzian
People's Choice Awards
"For anyone who was wondering if hiring the girl from the 'Big Bang Theory' to host an award show was like a bang-up good idea, well then they should watch the 2012 PCAs, again and again and again. (Spoiler: it's not.) Also, when the biggest headline of the night is the fact that Robert Pattinson presented with a shaved head, well then you might have a dull show on your hands, folks. Seriously, what else even happened at that show?" D — Vena

'I thought it was really funny,' Joel McHale tells MTV News.

For all the anticipation, anxiety and general pomp and circumstance that surrounded the 2012 Oscars, there were not too many surprises with regard to the actual show or its winners, save for comedian Sacha Baron Cohen's stunt with his appearance on the red carpet in character as Admiral General Aladeen, the lead character in his upcoming movie "The Dictator."
Baron Cohen made Ryan Seacrest the unwitting victim of the actor's publicity stunt when he approached the E! host armed with an urn supposedly containing the ashes of North Korea's Kim Jong Il and spilled the powdery contents of the container all over Seacrest and his tuxedo.
Baron Cohen's antics were much appreciated, judging from the smattering of celeb reactions MTV News gathered at Elton John's annual Oscar-viewing party and charity gala.
"No way. That's incredible," said Mark Foster of Foster the People upon hearing the news of Baron Cohen's stunt. "I wouldn't want Kim Jong Il's ashes on me."
"I thought it was funny and Ryan played along very well," Joel McHale said of his E! colleague Seacrest. "He's unflappable."
Both Foster and McHale agreed that Baron Cohen's antics added an extra element of excitement to the red-carpet festivities.
"It keeps things exciting. I love when people do something outside the box," Foster said.
"As long as no one was injured. No one was injured, right? I thought it was really funny," McHale added. "Sacha Baron Cohen is genius."
For his part, Seacrest seemed to take the incident in stride, and took to Twitter to make light of the "spill."
"My mom always told me to pack two jackets for red carpets, always wondered why. Now I know."
